Subbuteo
Anyone play or got kids that play it? Got to get a load of this stuff for a Christmas present, seems it's a bit of a minefield these days with regards to playing surfaces, pitch sizes etc.

Thinking of going for a rubber backed ASTRO pitch, seems to be a bit of a better option in respect of a flat surface when not mounting on board.

Anyone flicked on astro before?

SUBBUTEO always looked the nuts. I loved the extras you could get.

To be perfectly honest though, I thought the game was SHIT.

Re: SUBBUTEO
Agree with One Mc, all the excitement of floodlights, kits and scoreboards is soon reduced to a huge anti-climax once you start actually playing the game.

Oh, go for Old Skool Cloth by the way, may need some drawing pins and an iron as well

Re: SUBBUTEO
Yeah, was all very well having it mounted to board and having all the stands and floodlights etc, but when it comes to playing on an exposed crappy pitch with no fans it never had anywhere near as much appeal.

I remember trying to play this on carpet and having a mare with it keep folding up all over the pitch, hence looking to go down the plastic pitch route. It's a lot more bunce though and I don't want to spend a shit load on this only to find out that MODERN YOUTH lose interest after one game.

To be fair, youth has always been MODERN.

I lost interest after one game in the early 1970s.

Great game! Me and my brother used to pay mini leagues. West ham won it more often than not (biased).

Spent about an hour setting it up. Looked at it, then fucked off out with my mates, to play the real thing. Never bothered reading the rules, so didn't have clue.

I have got Tomy Electric Super Cup Football at home. Still got 5 out of the 6 balls too. Bought it at my local village fete for £1, virtually brand new. The noise annoys anyone not playing.

Football Express was the business.
They claim it wasn't named after the Daily Express 5 a side tournaments but I don't believe it.

Sign of a mispent youth in the 70s but I am still shit hot at Subbuteo!
We had an after school club with enough players for 3.leagues, I was always either league and cup winner or runner up. Would still fancy my chances against anyone these days.
Had pitch mounted on board, fencing, stands et...on a table in my bedroom, me and my mates used to paint our favourite teams kits ourselves whuch looked a lit better than the originals.
Had the Cricket too which was okay im the summer but not as good as the football.

There is a guy in southend who is replicating the great football game b/w england and germany during the war on x-mas this year to mark the anniversary, in subbuteo.

Re: SUBBUTEO
Preferred the game where you whacked the player on the head to shoot. Was it called Striker or Super Striker. Hurt your hand though.
